The Leafs Hate Us

So the Leafs scratch and claw to get this:

And then the Habs do them a favour by losing to the Rangers and the Leafs respond by...blowing the game in the third after they had tied it early. At the end of the year when people are asking why the Leafs are not in the playoffs the answer will not be found by laying the blame at the feet of Raycroft or any other individual but in the major defensive breakdowns (easily the cause of the majority of the goals against) that came at crippling times (the 3-2 goal tonight). Whether it was a lack of concetration, failing to clear the zone when within five feet of the blueline or RUNNING INTO EACH OTHER!!!! these braincamps have always been of the soul crippling variety.

Maybe the Leafs needed a dispiriting loss (Buffalo, NYR) so that they could be ready for Saturday night against the Habs. If they win then tonight can be forgotten but of course now the Leafs are dependent on the help of a Flyers team that is out of the playoffs and a Devils team that has already clinched the Atlantic Division. Suddenly this plan does not seem so great. At the end of the day all that the Leafs can do is win.

"a lack of concetration"...and you wonder why your team misses the playoffs!

If I wondered why they might miss the playoffs then I wouldn't offer lack of concetration as the reason.

People can talk about Raycroft's weak glove and going down too quickly but the fact is that so many of those goals come because the opposition has gotten great scoring chances because of defensive zone coverage.

Oh well, one more kick at the can tonight.

Kilger could've destroyed Blake with a hit, instead he opts to run into Gill. I don't understand that coming from the only guy who hits with any regularity.

John Ferguson has left us be a shotty goalie and old legs with big contracts that can't perform (ie. McCabe, O'Neil, Darcy Tucker). Maybe the Islanders will take McCabe off our hands. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs again, Ferguson's head will probably be the first to see rolling.

O'Neill is gone after this year. He was useful and at $1.5M he did his part.

McCabe is a whole other post, same with Darcy although Darcy did get 2 assists.

Ninja, I don't understand how Gill, who survives on the basis of positioning, could have run into Kilger or why Chad didn't pursue Blake with more vigour.

And to top it off White stands about 4 feet in front of Raycroft to ensure that he couldn't see it.

Looking back at that game, Tucker should have stepped up and reminded The Rangers that Avery was only just traded to NY. Instead, he was taken down by Sean Avery.

AMEN! The rivalry between the Leafs and The Rangers is on crescendo...

THE DARK RANGER is ready to take on the Leaves (leafs) come October...look out. Gomez is coming our way...Jagr, Nylander will stick, Shanny, THE KING...will all return plus perhaps some key Toronto players.
